Where to stay in Bangkok

Bangkok is known for a hotel strip along the BTS rather than one downtown, so first-timers usually sleep on Sukhumvit or in Siam for the trains and riverside if they want a boat dock. Old City rooms only fit a stay that is really about the temples.

Pick the BTS exit before the brand. Sukhumvit is the first-timer default: Nana for short stays, Asok for the MRT interchange, Phrom Phong for a calmer walk, Thong Lo for dinner. Riverside and Charoenkrung wins if you want a hotel pier, and Siam and Silom sits on the mall interchange. Old City stays only if the palace morning is the whole trip.

A 2026 BTS tap is 17 to 62 THB. After midnight the train stops; Grab from Soi 11 to Thonglor is often 80 to 160 THB. Do not rent a scooter on Sukhumvit Road. Book the first two nights on Trip.com near a named BTS exit, then move if the river or Chiang Mai is next.

Common questions

Sukhumvit or riverside for two nights?
Sukhumvit if you want dinner and the BTS. Riverside if you want boats and a quieter evening. Do not split one night each.
Is the Old City a good first hotel?
Only if temples are the whole stay. Evening food thins after 21:00. Most first-timers sleep on Sukhumvit and Grab in at 07:15.
