Where to stay in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is known for two hotel grids rather than one downtown: sleep inside the moat for temples, or in Nimman if you want a later dinner. Mae Rim fits a rice-terrace resort week.

Pick the walk before the brand, and the Old City is the moat square for dawn wats. Nimmanhaemin is west for cafes and a later plate, and Wat Ket and the Ping bank sit east if you want river rooms. Mae Rim is a valley resort, 30 to 45 minutes each way, and CNX to the Old City is 15 to 25 minutes.

Sunday Walking Street fills Ratchadamnoen, and Saturday is Wua Lai. Book two nights on Trip.com inside the moat or in Nimman, then move if Pai or Chiang Rai is next. Do not sleep on the airport belt unless you land late.
