River Kwai
The River Kwai is known for a steel bridge and a war-history morning, so stay in town and give the museum more than the ten-minute selfie. Erawan is a different road and a different day.
Back to Kanchanaburi
The postcard is the steel bridge on the Khwae Yai, and the useful hour is the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and the allied war cemetery in Kanchanaburi town. Ordinary trains still leave Thonburi, not Krung Thep Aphiwat, and read Bangkok to Kanchanaburi before you pin Bang Sue.
Hellfire Pass is about 80 km northwest by road past Nam Tok, not a passenger-train stop. Erawan is a different day: 300 THB foreign adult, seven tiers, 65 to 70 km, and two nights if you want both. A 2026 songthaew to the bridge is a short fare if you agree it first.
A workable river morning
- Cemetery and railway centre: First, while you still have attention.
- Bridge: Dusk or early, not a midday tour-bus crush.
- Nam Tok train: Scenic, when the line is open. Floods have shut stretches before.
- Erawan: Tomorrow. Not the same afternoon.
