Where to stay on Koh Samui

Koh Samui is known for three hotel coasts rather than one downtown: Chaweng for dinner, Lamai or Bophut if you want a quieter night. Book the bay name, not a generic island pin.

Name the bay before the brand, and Chaweng is the first-timer strip: dinner, clubs, and a 10 to 20 minute ride from USM. Lamai is the next east bay, quieter and a 20 to 30 minute car, and Bophut and Maenam sit north for Fisherman Village dinners. Northwest villas work when the hotel is the trip and you accept a 20 to 40 minute Grab for food.

January to September is the easier Gulf sea, and book two nights on Trip.com near the bay you will actually walk, then move if Koh Phangan is next. Beach clubs sit on Samui beach clubs, and do not rent a scooter from USM at night.

Common questions

Chaweng or Bophut for two nights?
Chaweng if you want dinner density. Bophut if Fisherman Village is the evening. Do not split one night each.
Do you need a villa on the first stay?
No. Lock Chaweng or Lamai, then add a northwest villa only if the hotel is the point.
