Lam in Chiang Mai หลาม

Lam is a Northern soup cooked in a bamboo tube. You see it at festival tables and a few Lanna rooms, not at every lunch stall.

What it tastes like

  • Bamboo, lemongrass, and a smoky broth. Meat or fish inside. It should smell of the tube.

How to order it

  • Thai name: lam (หลาม).
  • Say: Khor lam, khrap/kha.
  • If the room does not cook it that day, skip a tourist fake. Do not invent a bamboo photo stop.

Typical price

  • 2026 cash: 80 to 160 THB when it is on.

Where to try it

  • Huen Muan Jai, 24 Ratchaphruek Rd, Chang Phueak. 11:00 to 21:00; closed Wednesday. When listed on the board. Ask. Festival versions appear around Northern feast days.

Spice level and diet

  • Heat: Mild herb heat.
  • Diet: Meat or fish. Not a daily vegan pot.

Next plates

  • Back to the Chiang Mai food hub for the neighbourhood rows.
  • Use the Northern Lanna page if you want the walk, not a second dish.
  • Gaeng Om is the nearby order if this plate is done.
  • Kaeng Khae is the nearby order if this plate is done.
  • Aep is the nearby order if this plate is done.
