Ayutthaya from Bangkok
Ayutthaya from Bangkok is known for a one-hour train to brick prangs, and it fits a spare weekday if you sleep in Bangkok. Leave Kanchanaburi for another trip.

Take a northbound set from Krung Thep Aphiwat, and ordinary and commuter trains also still use Hua Lamphong. The useful write-up is Bangkok to Ayutthaya, and from the station you need a tuk-tuk, a bicycle, or a long hot walk onto the historical park island.
Paid sites are 80 THB or a 300 THB combo, and day trip first from Bangkok. Overnight only for dawn, and Bang Pa-In is the palace add-on south of town. Do not combine this with Kanchanaburi; that train leaves Thonburi and is a different day, and see Bangkok to Kanchanaburi.
A workable spare day
- Morning train: Krung Thep Aphiwat. Buy a return you can catch.
- Island loop: Bicycle or tuk-tuk. Combo if you will enter three-plus sites.
- Bang Pa-In: Only if light remains. Not a first wat.
- Last train: Matters more than a sixth ruin.
