Ayutthaya Historical Park

Ayutthaya Historical Park is known for brick prangs and a root-wrapped Buddha, and it fits a train day from Bangkok. Stay overnight only if you want empty dawn lanes.

The Fine Arts Department lists paid monuments at 80 THB each for foreign visitors or 300 THB as a flat ticket. The combo usually covers Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Phra Ram, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, and a sixth site. Ask the booth which names are on today's stub. Hours often read 08:00 to 18:00; some booths sell last tickets earlier.

Ride about one hour from Krung Thep Aphiwat, and see Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Move by bicycle or tuk-tuk; Wat Chaiwatthanaram sits off the island, and day trip first from Bangkok. Overnight only for dawn, and Bang Pa-In is the palace add-on, not a reason to skip the island. Compare Sukhothai only if you will sleep out of the capital.
