Hang Dong
Hang Dong is known for Baan Tawai crafts and hill-pool stays south-west of town, and it fits a shopping morning or a view hotel. Stay in Nimman if dinner walks matter more than the hill.
Back to Chiang Mai
Hang Dong is the south-west district for Baan Tawai craft yards and a few hill pools. A 2026 Grab from Nimman is often 200 to 400 THB and 20 to 40 minutes, shorter than a Mae Rim dinner run. Veranda High sits on the west foothills if the view pool is the stay. It is not a substitute for the Old City.
Do Baan Tawai as a morning if you want wood and furniture, then return to town. Doi Suthep is still 30 THB plus a 60 to 100 THB songthaew from the city, not from a Hang Dong sofa. See where to stay before you book a hill pin for a first three nights.
Day yard or hill hotel
- Yes: Baan Tawai morning, or a pool hotel with a Nimman taxi.
- No: A temple-first stay. Sleep in the moat.
- Versus Mae Rim: Closer to west-city dinners, fewer rice terraces.
