Best time to visit Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is known for cool, clear temple mornings from November to February, while haze in March suits a short town stay more than white plaster photos. Sleep in the city in any month.

Chiang Rai is a temple city, not a monsoon-coast call, and November to February is cool and clear. March and April can be smoke season; the white plaster photographs as grey, and rainy months still work for a White Temple day. Foreign tickets stay 200 THB since 1 January 2026.
CEI is 80 to 95 minutes from Bangkok in any month, and green Bus from Chiang Mai takes about 3.5 hours. Do not combine a haze week with Pai ridge photos, and hours at Wat Rong Khun run about 08:00 to 17:30, last entry about 17:00.
Month notes
- Nov to Feb: Clear mornings. Book town rooms.
- Mar to Apr: Check air quality. Blue Temple still works; the White Temple looks dull.
- Rain months: A temple day still functions. This is not an Andaman cancel.
