Open Wat Rong Khun at 08:00, before Chiang Mai coaches; foreign tickets rose to 200 THB on 1 January 2026. Hours run about 08:00 to 17:30 with last entry around 17:00; cash at the gate. Shoulders and knees covered; no photography inside the ubosot. Then Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple) in town, free, then Baan Dam at 80 THB if you still have stomach for it.
The long version lives on White Temple, Blue Temple, and Baan Dam, and sleep in Chiang Rai. Green Bus from Chiang Mai takes about 3.5 hours, and CEI is 80 to 95 minutes from Bangkok. Do not add Pai on the same spine.
