Where to stay in Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is known for a low-rise town and a White Temple south of the grid, so sleep in the city. Stay near the night bazaar if dinner without a tuk-tuk matters.

Stay near the night bazaar or the river in Chiang Rai if you want dinner without a tuk-tuk. Stay nearer CEI only if the flight is brutal, and the White Temple is 13 to 15 km south on Highway 1, not a neighbourhood. Foreign tickets are 200 THB since 1 January 2026.

Fly CEI in 80 to 95 minutes from Bangkok, or take the Green Bus about 3.5 hours from Chiang Mai, and do not add Pai on the same first week. Book one or two nights on Trip.com, and see the White Temple day before you pay for a souvenir van.
