10 days in Khao Lak: family Andaman itinerary
Khao Lak is the shallow-beach base, not Patong. Book Thap Lamu only in park season, and keep Phi Phi off the same week with small kids.
Khao Lak is the shallow Andaman mainland for parents who refuse Patong and a Phi Phi hop. Fly Bangkok to Phuket in about 80 minutes, then a booked car 70 to 90 minutes north, and sleep using Khao Lak where to stay. Bang Niang is the useful strip. Family notes sit on family travel.
Add one Similan day only in season (15 October to 15 May). Foreign park fees have sat in the 500 THB range on top of the boat. Skip a same-week Phi Phi add with small kids. Andaman dry months are November to April. Submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) from visas and TDAC.

1 Land HKT, drive north
70 to 90 minutes to Khao Lak. No boat. Pool hotel.
2 Beach reset
Shallow sand. Learn the strip between Bang Niang and Nang Thong.
3 Pool day
Hotel grounds. Early dinner.
4 Turtle or tsunami hour
Short museum or sanctuary visit if energy holds.
5 Second swim bay
Move umbrellas if the first beach is rough.
6 Buffer
Rain plan: hotel spa or a cooking class.
7 Similan day or rest
In season from Thap Lamu. Skip if kids are seasick.
8 Recovery day
Pool only after a boat.
9 Quiet beach day
Last shallow hour. Confirm the HKT car.
10 Drive to HKT
70 to 90 minutes. Same-day long-haul after a boat is a bad idea.
