Best time to visit Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is known for a January to September Gulf sea that fits a bay week, while October to December is wetter and boats cancel more. The Full Moon Party happens at Haad Rin, so it is not a reason to pick your travel month.

PartyFull Moon is Haad Rin, any month it falls

Use the same Gulf calendar as Koh Samui: January to September, and October to December is wetter and boats cancel more. The Andaman winter (November to April) is a different first week, and keep Phuket and Phangan off the same first seven days.

Full Moon can fall in any month, and it does not make October a dry month. Lomprayah from Bangrak or Maenam is still about 30 minutes when it sails, and Seatran is about 45. Book Haad Rin only if that night is the trip.

Month notes

  • Jan to Sep: Bay swims and steadier boats.
  • Oct to Dec: More swell. Keep a buffer before USM.
  • Full Moon week: Haad Rin rooms and boat seats sell out around Full Moon.
