From a Pai bed, the useful half-days are Pai Canyon, the bamboo bridge, and the hot springs. Agree the songthaew before you leave Walking Street, and Chiang Mai to Pai is the inbound road, not a same-day circuit. The Mae Hong Son Loop is about 600 km; four days is the floor.
A 2026 canyon songthaew is often a few hundred THB if you share the bench, and leave Chiang Rai off that same spare day. Start from CNX, sleep, then move, and see top attractions if you only want the in-town list.
