Where to stay in Sukhothai

Sukhothai is known for a dawn bicycle in the UNESCO park, so sleep in Old Sukhothai at the gate and treat the new town as a taxi if you land late. This is an overnight, not a Bangkok day trip.

Book Old Sukhothai (Muang Kao) if the historical park is why you came, and the central zone opens 06:30 and costs 200 THB for foreigners. Rent a bicycle at the central gate, and new Sukhothai, about 12 km east, has more ATMs and a duller dawn.

Bangkok Airways flies into Sukhothai Airport (THS) when the schedule fits. If you land at Phitsanulok (PHS) instead, the city is east of the ruins and the transfer runs west into Old Sukhothai. Ayutthaya is the ruins day trip by train from Bangkok. A 2026 songthaew or Grab from the new town uses up the cool morning in transit. See the Sukhothai hub before you add Si Satchanalai.
