What it tastes like

  • Fragrant, rich, and dry. Offal and blood are common. It should not taste of lime and mint like Isan larb.

  • Thai name: lap kua (ลาบคั่ว).
  • Say: Khor lap kua mu, khrap/kha.
  • Ask if blood is in the mince if that matters. Sticky rice on the side.

Typical price

  • 2026 cash: 80 to 160 THB.

Where to try it

  • Huen Muan Jai, 24 Ratchaphruek Rd, Chang Phueak. 11:00 to 21:00; closed Wednesday; Saturday split lunch and dinner. 80 to 160 THB. 2026 Bib wooden house. North of the moat, same road as Mae Sai.

Spice level and diet

  • Heat: Fragrant more than lime-hot. Still chili in the mix.
  • Diet: Pork, often blood and offal. Not a first-trip safe plate if you avoid those.
