Where to stay in Phuket

Phuket is known for west-coast hotel strips rather than one downtown, so first nights usually sit on Kata, Kamala, or Bang Tao. Patong fits a night out, not a first four-night base.

Book a beach name, not "Phuket" as one town, and Kata and Karon are the walkable first-timer pair. Kamala and Surin sit quieter between Patong and Bang Tao, and Bang Tao and Laguna give a longer sand and golf grid. Rawai and Nai Harn are the far-south swim, and Patong is Bangla after dark.

HKT to the west coast is 45 to 90 minutes, and the Smart Bus is 100 THB. A Kata limousine sits near 1,000 THB on the airport board, and lock two nights on Trip.com, then move if a boat week or Krabi is next. Pair with getting around.

Common questions

Kata or Patong for two nights?
Kata if you want a swim and a village walk. Patong if Bangla is the trip. Do not split one night each.
Is Old Town a good first hotel?
No. Old Town is a morning of streets and Hokkien lunch. Sleep on the west coast and drive in.
