Best time to visit Sukhothai

Sukhothai is known for a cool-season dawn ride from November to February, when the bicycle is kind. Heat in April still opens at 06:30, so start at the old-town gate anyway.

Sukhothai is inland, and coast monsoons do not decide it. November to February is the kind park, and March and April are oven-hot on laterite; start at 06:30 anyway. Rain still works if you ride at opening, and the central zone stays 200 THB for foreigners.

Fly Bangkok Airways into Sukhothai Airport (THS) when it fits, or use Phitsanulok (PHS) and a westward van from that eastern city, and sleep in Old Sukhothai. Pair this page with Ayutthaya only as a different ruin week, not a same-day van. See historical park for zone math.

Month notes

  • Nov to Feb: Cool dawn. Book old-town rooms.
  • Mar to Apr: Heat. Bicycle at 06:30 or skip the afternoon.
  • Rain months: Opening still works. Carry a light cover.

Common questions

Is August a bad Sukhothai month?
It is hot and can rain. Opening at 06:30 still works. It is not an Andaman boat month.
Haze like Chiang Mai?
March can hold smoke. The chedis are still there. Haze can dull the views even when the park is open.
