Fly Bangkok Airways into Sukhothai Airport (THS) when it fits, or use Phitsanulok (PHS) and a westward transfer from that eastern city, and sleep in Sukhothai. Ayutthaya is the nearer ruins trip from Bangkok if you only have one spare day. If songthaew departures look thin, a hired car to Si Satchanalai is the most reliable way to keep to your schedule.
