Doi Inthanon

Doi Inthanon is known for the 2,565 m summit, cloud-forest trails, and Wachirathan Falls. A Hmong guide on Kew Mae Pan is 200 THB per group. Leave Chiang Mai early.

Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand at 2,565 m, southwest of Chiang Mai on Highway 108 then 1009. The drive is 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Foreign adults pay 300 THB at the park gate, children 150 THB, plus 30 THB per car or 20 THB per motorbike. Keep the stub. Booths check it again higher up.

Kew Mae Pan is the ridge trail, open 1 November to 31 May and closed in the wet months. A local Hmong (or Karen) guide is compulsory at 200 THB per group, not per person. The Twin Royal Pagodas, Napamethinidon and Napaphonphumisiri, charge a separate 100 THB. Wachirathan is the wide roadside waterfall most cars can reach without a hike. The summit boardwalk at Ang Ka is short, cold, and often in cloud. Bring a jacket.

A workable day from the moat

Leave the Old City by 07:00. Do Wachirathan on the way up, Kew Mae Pan if it is in season, the pagodas, then the summit. Mae Klang Luang is the Karen coffee village on the same road if you want a highland cup instead of a second waterfall. A rented scooter on 1009 is a bad first-week idea. Book a car or a Klook day tour.
