Chiang Mai khao soi and markets
Eat khao soi at lunch, Warorot in daylight, and stewed pork leg after dark. This circuit fits three nights inside or beside the moat. Sunday is a walking-street night, not a Mae Sai day.
Chiang Mai food runs on a lunch clock. Khao Soi Mae Sai on Ratchaphuek Road in Chang Phueak, north of the moat, is the coconut curry noodle at 55 to 90 THB on the 2026 menu. Hours are 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Saturday. It is closed Sunday. Khao Soi Khun Yai sits between Sri Poom and Chang Moi, inside the north moat, and serves only 10:00 to 14:00. Pots empty. Warorot Market (Kad Luang) is the daytime wholesale hall for `sai ua` herbal sausage, `nam prik noom` green chili dip, and snacks you can carry. Chang Phuak (North Gate) is the evening stewed-pork-leg strip: `khao kha moo` at 60 to 70 THB. Sunday Walking Street closes Ratchadamnoen from Tha Phae Gate toward Wat Phra Singh from late afternoon. Do not hunt Mae Sai or Khun Yai on that Sunday.
A three-day Lanna eat
Day one: Khun Yai before 13:00 or Mae Sai before 16:00, Old City wats, North Gate pork after dark. Day two: Warorot in the morning, a sit-down Northern dinner. Day three: Sunday Walking Street if the calendar lines up, or a Nimman coffee if it does not. Smoke season from late February to April can shut the fun. If the air is bad, eat and leave.
