Thailand Guide

Thailand with kids and families

Thailand with kids is known for shallow west-coast beaches, Chiang Mai ethical elephant half-days, and Bangkok aquarium breaks. Fits families who bring a travel car seat or book a private van.

Thailand works for families because distances are short, food is mild if you ask, and hospitals in the main cities are used to foreign patients. The hard part is the road. Street taxis and many Grabs have no child seat and often no rear seatbelt you trust. Bring a travel car seat, or book a private Klook or Trip.com van that lists child seats (a 2026 BKK-to-hotel van is often 1,200 to 2,000 THB). Do not assume the airport taxi has one.

Calm, shallow beaches for small kids: Kata, Kamala, and Bang Tao on Phuket; Choeng Mon on Samui; Klong Dao on Koh Lanta. Skip Patong and Chaweng as a first beach with toddlers. Chiang Mai ethical elephant half-days sit on [elephant sanctuaries](/attractions/chiang-mai-ethical-elephant-sanctuaries). Bangkok heat breaks: SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World at Siam Paragon. Hospitals: Bumrungrad and Samitivej in Bangkok; Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Bangkok Hospital Samui on the islands.

Seats, shallow water, and an indoor hour

Build one slow beach, one indoor break, and one animal morning that does not ride elephants. A private van with seats costs more than a taxi and removes the argument at the curb.
