Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa floating markets
Use Damnoen Saduak if you need a morning canal on any weekday. Use Amphawa if you want local seafood on a weekend evening. Maeklong trains pass at 08:30, 11:10, 14:30, and 17:40.
Damnoen Saduak in Ratchaburi is the daily morning canal. Boats and stalls run about 07:00 to 11:00. After that the water empties. A private longtail for a short loop is 1,500 to 2,000 THB in 2026. Shared boats are cheaper and more stop-start. Tour buses photograph this canal. Go early or skip it.
Amphawa in Samut Songkhram is the weekend evening market, Friday to Sunday about 14:00 to 20:30. You walk the boards, eat grilled seafood, and optionally take a firefly boat for 60 to 100 THB after dusk. Maeklong Railway Market (Talad Rom Hoop) is the third stop: the train still parts the awnings at about 08:30, 11:10, 14:30, and 17:40. Confirm the board at Mae Klong station. A van from Bangkok is about 1.5 to 2 hours. A day tour that hits all three is a long Saturday, not a casual add-on.
Pick one canal, or accept a long Saturday
Weekday: Damnoen Saduak at opening, then back to Bangkok for dinner. Weekend: Amphawa in the afternoon and a firefly boat. Add Maeklong only if you will stand for a train and leave. Do not promise all three plus the Grand Palace.
